Way back before I started this project, I was listening to a radio show where they interviewed Frank Warren, the developer of PostSecret. PostSecret is a community art project where people mail in their secrets anonymously on one side of a homemade postcard. The show was really interesting, but I didn't think about it again till someone mentioned it last week; today I sent a postcard to Postsecret.
There are all types of secrets posted. Some of them are shocking, some are sad, some are funny, and some are inspirational. I like the idea behind the site, but some of the art inspired by the secrets is a little strange. Sometimes there are responses to a post card posted on the Website; it's interesting to see how other people respond to a secret.
Some of the postcards displayed on the site are pretty depressing, but my "secret" wasn't one of them. However, I still felt weird about putting it in my home mailbox, so I drove to the post office and mailed it there. That way, NO ONE will know! Of course, I can't show my postcard here, because then it wouldn't be secret!
It looks like they update the page pretty frequently with new postcards. Here's my favorite one that's currently on the Website:

I love the Home Depot one! PS is such a micro-study of the human condition; the secrets sent in to Frank range all over the place, from horrifying to uplifting.
ReplyDeleteAnother site I check out every now and then is called Passive Aggressive Notes.com (http://www.passiveaggressivenotes.com/). People submit passive aggressive notes they have either seen or received. It is not quite so uplifting as the Do you want to know a secret one can sometimes be, or as depressing as it can sometimes be. It is more like watching a train wreck. You just keep reading, kind of in horror, but can't look away. Silly stuff really!!! :)
